  • Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Announces End To Fuel Supplement

Miami - October 24, 2008 - Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. today announced that the company's fuel supplement will no longer apply to new Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises bookings made on or after November 10, 2008, anywhere in the world, for sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2010.

This decision takes into consideration the recent reductions in global fuel prices. The company has also established specific guidelines that will determine whether fuel supplement refunds will be provided for sailings that begin in 2009 and later, which were booked prior to November 10, 2008, if fuel prices remain below a specific price threshold.

For 2009 sailings and 2010 sailings booked before November 10, 2008, the company will determine on a quarterly basis whether fuel supplements will be refunded. Refunds, in the form of an onboard credit, will be provided if the closing price of West Texas Intermediate fuel is $65 or less, at the closing time of the New York Mercantile Exchange, two weeks prior to the beginning of the upcoming calendar quarter. When those conditions are met, an onboard credit will be provided to all guests on sailings that begin during the upcoming calendar quarter.

The dates on which the price of West Texas Intermediate fuel will be measured, and the quarters during which refunds could apply are:

    Fuel Price Determination Date

Quarter of Possible Fuel Supplement Refunds

    December 18, 2008

    First quarter 2009

    March 18, 2009

    Second quarter 2009

    June 17, 2009

    Third quarter 2009

    September 17, 2009

    Fourth quarter 2009

    December 18, 2009

    First quarter 2010

    March 18, 2010

    Second quarter 2010

    June 17, 2010

    Third quarter 2010

    September 17, 2010

    Fourth quarter 2010

The company will continue to closely monitor the movement of global fuel prices and recognize that an upturn in those prices could necessitate the reinstatement of a fuel supplement.

Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is a global cruise vacation company that operates Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Pullmantur, Azamara Cruises and CDF Croisieres de France. The company has a combined total of 38 ships in service and six under construction. It also offers unique land-tour vacations in Alaska, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Europe and South America.

    Update: Hurricane Omar Itinerary Changes
(11 p.m.) -- As Hurricane Omar continues its northeasterly path through the Caribbean toward Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, cruise lines have been reporting storm-related itinerary changes. According to the latest reports from the National Hurricane Center, the storm is now a Category Three storm (a major hurricane) with maximum sustained winds of 115 miles per hour.

Tropical Depression 16, a still unnamed storm that has brought heavy rains and winds of 35 miles per hour to the Western Caribbean, has also caused an itinerary change to a Carnival ship.

    Carnival Cruise Lines

As a result of Tropical Depression 16, Carnival Legend will sail an altered itinerary. Instead of visiting Belize on Thursday as originally planned, the ship will spend another day in Cozumel (where it docked today).

Carnival Triumph, which sailed out of Miami on October 12, has switched three of its originally scheduled stops (St. Thomas, San Juan and Grand Turk). The ship will now visit Jamaica's Ocho Rios on Wednesday (7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.); Grand Cayman on Thursday (7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.); and Cozumel on Friday (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).

Carnival Glory, which sailed out of Port Canaveral on October 11, will spend a day at sea tomorrow instead of visiting St. Maarten as originally planned. The ship will stop in Grand Turk on Thursday (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

    Royal Caribbean

Adventure of the Seas, which departed the Port of San Juan on Sunday, October 12, will sail a modified itinerary. The ship will not be visiting St. Johns, Antigua, on Thursday. Instead the ship will visit Roseau, Dominica.

Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas will also sail an altered itinerary. The ship will not be visiting St. Thomas on Wednesday and St. Maarten on Thursday as planned. Instead Mariner will be at sea Wednesday; stop in Grand Cayman on Thursday; visit Cozumel on Friday; and be at sea Saturday.

    Holland America

Due to the weather conditions, Maasdam is skipping its originally planned stop in St. Maarten, and heading directly to St. Lucia instead. It is expected to continue on schedule after that.

    Princess Cruises

Princess has announced itinerary changes for Crown Princess. The ship will now sail the following schedule: Grand Turk on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. (originally St. Maarten); Ocho Rios on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (originally St. Thomas); and Grand Cayman on Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (originally Grand Turk).

Coral Princess missed its planned call in Aruba today. Instead the ship is heading straight to Cartagena, where it will arrive one hour early tomorrow.

    Disney Cruise Line

Disney Magic will be swapping its scheduled call in St. Thomas tomorrow (Wednesday) for a day at sea. On Thursday, instead of spending the day at sea as originally planned, the vessel will visit Nassau.

    Stay tuned for updates.

    Hurricane Omar Triggers Itinerary Changes
(Update: 6 a.m. EDT) -- Tropical Storm Omar has now reached Hurricane status with wind speeds of 75 miles per hour. A hurricane warning is in effect for the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Maarten, St. Martin, The British Virgin Islands and St. Kitts. We'll keep you posted on any further itinerary changes.

(October 14)-- The storm is currently passing through Aruba, Curacao and Bonaire, and is expected to strengthen as it makes its way northeast toward Puerto Rico. The three ABC islands are often described as lying outside the hurricane belt, but as Omar and 2007's Hurricane Felix prove, these islands are not always storm-free. In response to the situation, Carnival Cruise Lines, Disney Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean have announced itinerary changes for ships in the region.
