    6/29/2010 -

At press time, Tropical Storm Alex (shown here) - the first named storm of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season - was gaining strength in the Gulf of Mexico, possibly reaching hurricane levels today. Hurricane and tropical storm watches extend across Texas and Mexico. Carnival Cruise Lines switched the order of port calls for its ships "Carnival Ecstasy" and "Carnival Triumph," stopping in Cozumel yesterday and Progreso today instead of the reverse.

  • Exciting News for Galveston from Carnival

All we can say is, Texas get ready! Beginning November 14, 2011, Carnival Cruise Lines' newest ship, the Carnival Magic, will be calling Galveston home. Additionally, the Carnival Triumph will reposition from New Orleans to Galveston to operate year-round four- and five-day Caribbean cruises from that port beginning October 6, 2011.

In turn, the Carnival Conquest and Carnival Ecstasy, both of which are currently based in Galveston, will reposition to New Orleans to operate year-round departures from that port, returning the line to pre-Katrina capacity levels there.

It's practically impossible to do anything on a small scale in Texas, and homeporting the Carnival Magic in Galveston is no exception - it will be the largest-ever capacity commitment by a cruise line to the Lone Star state!

The Carnival Magic will debut in Europe in May 2011, offering seven-, nine- and 12-day Mediterranean voyages from Barcelona May 1 to October 16, 2011; followed by a 16-day trans-Atlantic crossing from Barcelona to Galveston departing October 28, 2011.

After October, guests can choose from two different week-long itineraries from Galveston, including seven-day western Caribbean voyages to Montego Bay, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, and week-long eastern Caribbean cruises to Nassau, Freeport, and Key West.

What clients do you know who are within a five-hour drive of Galveston or a quick plane flight? A Caribbean cruise is the perfect setting for a wedding party, honeymoon, anniversary, graduation, reunion, fun vacation or multi-generational trip of a lifetime!

Like its sister ship, the Carnival Dream, the Carnival Magic features exciting amenities including a spectacular water park, an exclusive adults-only retreat, a wrap-around promenade with whirlpools that extend out over the ship's sides, and expansive spa and children's facilities.

In true Carnival style, guests will have a range of stateroom choices, including family-friendly, five-berth deluxe two-bathroom ocean view accommodations; cove balcony cabins located closer to the water line; and special spa staterooms. Several innovations unique to the Carnival Magic will be announced in the near future.

The new Carnival Magic truly lives up to its name - magic.

    GULF CRUISES OPERATING NORMALLY
    June 21, 2010

Like you, all of us at Carnival are deeply concerned about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico
and its impact on the environment and the people that live and work in the local communities. We are monitoring the situation closely and continuing to operate all scheduled Gulf itineraries without disruption. Ships sailing from New Orleans and Mobile are making slight course alterations as necessary to avoid the most heavily impacted spill areas. At this time, we are not anticipating any impact to our normal cruise schedules across the entire fleet. Our guests continue to enjoy all that a Carnival cruise has to offer, from waterslides, delicious dining and fabulous entertainment onboard, to pristine beaches and interesting cultural experiences in our ports of call.

We also encourage all of our guests sailing from Gulf home ports, especially New Orleans and Mobile, to spend a few days before or after your cruise in these cities and surrounding areas. It’s a great way to stretch your vacation and enjoy all of the local hospitality and attractions those areas have to offer.

    Thank you.

On Sunday, March 14, 2010, the U.S. Department of State issued a Travel Warning following an increase in violence in Northern Mexico border states. This increase in violence is primarily centered in the Northern border cities which are hundreds of miles from the tourist destinations frequented by our customers. See the State Department's site for the full travel alert: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_4755.html

As a major tour operator to Mexico with over 20 years of experience, we continue to monitor the current situation and are confident, based on the State Department's most recent information, that travel to the major tourist areas is safe, and that as long as normal precautions recommended for travel anywhere are observed, our mutual clients will have an enjoyable vacation in one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. And as part of our ongoing commitment to you, I urge you to review the facts and to be prepared to address your clients' concerns and questions about upcoming travel to Mexico with knowledgeable, factual information:

What you need to know and to understand:

    • The recently updated Mexico Travel Alert has been broadly misinterpreted by media and consumers. The alert does not discourage U.S. citizens from traveling to Mexico, but instead encourages travelers to take common sense precautions to ensure that travel to Mexico is safe and enjoyable.
    • This increase in violence is primarily centered in the Northern border cities of Tijuana, Nogales, Ciudad Juarez, Nuevo Laredo, Monterrey and Matamoros, hundreds of miles from the tourist destinations frequented by our customers.
    • Cancun/Riviera Maya, the most popular leisure destination in Mexico, is more than 1,300 miles from the nearest U.S./Mexico border town referred to in the updated Mexico Travel Alert.
    • Rest assured that your client's safety is a foremost priority with our hotel partners as well as our in-destination representatives.
    • Violence is not a problem exclusive to Mexico; it occurs in all nations.

We do not take the State Department's warning lightly, and neither should you, and we are appalled by the recent violence. However, it is our hope that people will recognize that millions of U.S. citizens travel safely to Mexico each year and return home eager to start planning their next trip with family and friends the following year. Repeat vacation business to Mexico's tourist areas always has been and continues to be unprecedented.
